A phone to call 911. Keep cell phone handy, not all in one place on some charger. A teenager hid in the closet, called 911, then beat the intruder with his baseball bat when the perpetrator opened the closet door. The kid was terrified and he really f…ck Ed up the perpetrator. I live in a small city in upstate NY that is rated the third most dangerous city in upstate NY. Recently a 90 year old women was brutally killed in a home invasion and that same person invaded the house next door while the owners were home. Lucky for them the husband was home and scared the perp away. I live in a upscale part of this city so our houses are targeted for theft. I have motion lights for my perimeter,secure doors and a alarm system that is monitored. Still I am constantly aware of my surroundings when home or outside, notifying police of anything suspicious. My last line of defense is my 9mm and shotgun. I have set up a line of fire if we are asleep upstairs and attacked and carry the rest of the time. The common sense is don’t let yourself be a victim. Most home invasions are by junkies looking for something to steal to sell and are usually not looking to get into a confrontation that will get them killed. But you never know. If someone breaks into my home uninvited, I assume that they are not there to make me a cup of coffee so they will have to face the consequences.

Thanks for the info. I have been sleeping with a 9mm under my pillow for years but the other comments you make regarding thinking like a thief have already helped me to make additional preps. Also the comment regarding a racing heart is also taken seriously. I know this to be true and learning to calm yourself and prepare for such an event is crucial. Thanks again. I will be back for more.

Hardened door frames, security film on windows, lots of motion lights, alarm and signs, 4 big mastiff’s, security cameras and a good TL 30 T6 safe, If they get past all that then I hope they are bullet proof and if they are they can have it.

Your comment is 100% correct. Thieves broke into my house by kicking in the front door while I was at work. Since then I have added a 5 foot strike plat (that’s right – 5 feet). It’s next to impossible to break down those doors now.
