My FT 65R just developed a Problem this morning with the squelch. I also ordered the FT 60R this morning along with AA battery case and battery elimenater, which you can’t get for the FT65R.

Robert, you’re SPOT ON! :-) My first radio was a FT60R and they are all but bulletproof. I still have it after almost 10 years, same battery, never had an ounce of trouble. I have several other HTs and the FT60R is still my favorite. Wife has one also, same deal, reliable as a stone. And yup, if you want something to experiment with get a USED chinese piece of crap. I have used baofang…its a brick. Just my 2 cents.

The only thing I do not like is it does not have a DC in jack, so if your battery goes dead you cant just plug the radio into a AC or DC adapter. Except for that I love it! I did buy a longer Diamond antenna which increased range. Radio seems to be well made.
